Championing the right to sexual and reproductive health for all.

The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is the world’s largest civil society movement advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). With a presence in over 140 countries and a Federation of more than 120 locally owned Member Associations, we work to ensure that everyone, everywhere, can make free and informed choices about their bodies and lives. Our work spans access to contraception, safe abortion care, comprehensive sexuality education, maternal health and humanitarian response, ensuring no one is left behind. Guided by our vision and Strategy 2028, we are reimagining what global SRHR leadership looks like: bold, inclusive and unafraid.

IPPF’s governance structures are fundamental to this mission. They uphold the Federation’s legitimacy, accountability and global solidarity, anchoring our work in ethical stewardship and collective responsibility. Since our governance reform, we have adopted a model that prioritises independence, professionalism, and shared leadership across a diverse and decentralised global movement.

We are now seeking motivated, courageous and values-driven individuals to join our Board of Trustees or Nominations and Governance Committee (NGC). These are voluntary, non-executive appointments for individuals committed to strengthening governance in the service of IPPF’s mission. Trustees provide oversight of IPPF’s governance, financial systems and safeguarding frameworks, acting in the interests of the whole Federation. We particularly welcome candidates with bold and feminist leadership experience, a track record of SRHR, and specific skills gained across financial oversight, fundraising, international governance or Board leadership, legal and regulatory frameworks, movement-building, or rights-based advocacy.

Members of the NGC serve as an independent body accountable to the General Assembly. The Committee plays a critical role in stewarding IPPF’s governance through Board and Board Committee recruitment, performance review and succession planning. We are particularly interested in individuals with expertise in international governance, people and organisational development, capacity building, or legal and regulatory systems relevant to civil society.

Above all, we are looking for people with a deep commitment to IPPF’s mission, vision and values. If you bring integrity, humility, and a belief in the power of collective leadership to advance health and rights, we would love to hear from you.

As unpaid and voluntary roles they will require time, commitment and effort throughout the year. Board Trustees are expected to dedicate a minimum of 15-20 days a year including travel to fulfil their Board responsibilities, as well as international travel to visit partners where possible and required. Members of the NGC are expected to dedicate a minimum of 12-15 days a year.
