Edith Cowan University (ECU) is seeking an exceptional academic leader to join our Executive Leadership Team as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research). This is a rare opportunity to lead and elevate ECU’s research strategy at a pivotal time in our evolution, as we deliver on our bold vision outlined in the Strategic Plan 2022–2026: Towards the University of the Future.


As Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), you will be responsible for driving ECU’s research excellence, innovation, and enterprise agenda. Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, you will lead a high-performing team and foster a culture of collaboration, integrity, and impact. You will play a central role in shaping and implementing ECU’s research strategy, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensuring the translation of research into meaningful societal and economic outcomes. Your leadership will be instrumental in building strategic partnerships with industry, government, and community, and in positioning ECU as a national and global leader in research and industry engagement.


You will be a distinguished academic with a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field, and a proven track record of success in senior research leadership roles. Your experience will include driving research strategy, building impactful partnerships, and fostering innovation. You will bring exceptional leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills, along with a deep commitment to research integrity, compliance, and excellence. Your ability to inspire and mentor academic talent and postgraduate researchers will be key to cultivating a thriving research culture at ECU. You will also help reimagine the PhD experience, creating a stronger emphasis on industry engagement and international partnerships.
