Ocean Conservancy is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) working globally to protect the ocean and the people and communities that depend on it. For more than 50 years, the organization has brought together science, people and policy to address some of the most significant challenges facing ocean health.
Today, Ocean Conservancy works across three interconnected priorities: protecting biodiversity, advancing climate solutions and ending ocean plastics. Through scientific research, policy advocacy, coalition-building and public engagement, the organization works with governments, communities, businesses, scientists and partners around the world to develop practical, lasting conservation solutions.
Ocean Conservancy is seeking a Chief Conservation Officer (CCO) to provide strategic leadership and oversight of its conservation portfolio and help shape the organization’s next chapter of impact. As a member of the Executive Team, the CCO will set the long-term vision for Ocean Conservancy’s conservation work, strengthen integration across programs, and ensure teams have the direction, resources and support needed to deliver ambitious conservation outcomes.
The CCO will oversee a broad portfolio spanning policy, science and field-based initiatives; provide strategic and fiduciary oversight of significant grant investments; cultivate international partnerships and funder relationships; and represent Ocean Conservancy with policymakers, partners, media and other external stakeholders. The successful candidate will be a collaborative and credible conservation leader who combines strategic vision with strong people leadership, operational judgment and the ability to build influence across sectors and geographies.

The role will be based in Washington, D.C. Candidates based in Maryland and Virginia will also be considered. Ocean Conservancy embraces a hybrid work environment, which allows our staff the flexibility to work virtually and in-person while building strong connections across the institution. The expected salary is $280,000-$350,000.
