Asia is home to some of the world's most vulnerable ecosystems and populations, already facing the harsh realities of climate change – extreme weather and rising seas among them. At the same time, it is also a major contributor to global carbon emissions, accounting for nearly half of the world's total. Despite the grave urgency of combating global climate change, less than 2% of global philanthropic funding is currently directed towards climate mitigation. Moreover, only a fraction of this funding is allocated to initiatives focused on Asia.
Established in 2021, Tara Climate Foundation is a philanthropic initiative dedicated to fostering a future where Asia’s unwavering commitment to climate action paves the way for just, thriving and resilient societies. Headquartered in Singapore, with a team of over 55 experts spread across the region, Tara works with over 355 partners across 13 Asian geographies, including think tanks, research institutes, advisory groups and associations. Tara partners with funders to align resources and regrant funds to implementing organizations, and builds networks with experts, purpose-driven organizations and other key stakeholders to promote meaningful debates, knowledge exchange and collaboration.
As it continues to grow, Tara is now seeking a Deputy Director for its Southeast Asia (SEA) region. Reporting to the Regional Director for SEA, they will be a strategic, seasoned and forward looking individual to lead the design and delivery of cross-country energy transition strategies and initiatives. The Deputy Director, SEA, will play a lead role in program and grant management for the region, build trusted relationships with external stakeholders, and lead a talented and passionate team of experts.
The Deputy Director should be able to demonstrate significant exposure to at least one (though more will be advantageous) of Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia.
The ideal candidate will bring a significant track record of shaping strategies and driving collaboration in the energy transition, climate policy, international development, or relevant adjacent fields. You will have a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges related to the energy transition in SEA. Experience with ASEAN or other relevant regional initiatives is beneficial. You will bring experience working with a range of stakeholders including NGOs, think tanks, donors and government agencies to drive systemic change. You will bring outstanding intercultural management, communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively in a high pressure and fast-paced environment, and above all, a strong commitment to Tara’s values.

The salary is commensurate with the seniority of the appointment. The successful candidate can be based in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Longlisted candidates will be invited to first conversations in February, and the Selection Panel will subsequently meet to decide upon a shortlist for the post, following which interviews with Tara Climate Foundation will take place thereafter.
