Applications are invited for the new Lord Bhattacharyya Chair of Engineering Education in the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG) at the University of Warwick. The late Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya is one of the most transformational leaders in Warwick’s history. In 1980, he founded WMG, helping to reinvigorate UK manufacturing and improve competitiveness through innovation and skills development. In 2016, WMG was awarded a Regius Professorship in Manufacturing, which was bestowed by Her Majesty the Queen in recognition of the transformational contributions that Lord Bhattacharyya made to UK manufacturing.

WMG, home to over 800 staff, is a world-leading research and education group, and is an international role model for successful partnerships between academia, and the private and public sectors. Developing advancements in applied science, technology and engineering nationally and globally, WMG delivers real impact to economic growth, society and the environment. WMG’s education programmes focus on lifelong learning of the brightest talent, from the WMG Academies for Young Engineers, degree apprenticeships, undergraduate and postgraduate, through to professional programmes.

Two generous anonymous gifts from alumni have established the Lord Bhattacharyya Chair of Engineering Education, which will continue the late Professor Lord Bhattacharyya’s legacy, by enhancing WMG’s exceptional academic expertise in the understanding, development and teaching of engineering and manufacturing internationally.

The new Chair will provide academic leadership at the interface between research and teaching, helping to ensure that WMG’s fundamental and applied research outputs are placed at the heart of a teaching agenda that promotes and embeds innovation. They will lead the development and implementation of the WMG’s education research themes around engineering education, developing appropriate pedagogies for engineering, engineering management and digital technologies. The Chair will create a vision for collaborative learning with industry for WMG and its international partners.

The successful candidate will have a strong international academic track record in engineering education research, with demonstrated real-world impact, a history of securing grant funding, and experience managing multidisciplinary projects with academic and industry partners. They will also bring strategic vision, proven leadership in education innovation and staff development, and the ability to build effective networks nationally and internationally.
