Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust bring together the expertise of Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Birmingham Women’s Hospital. Formed in 2017, it is the first of its kind in the UK, driving forward a commitment to providing the highest quality, world-class care that women, children and families want, and deserve. Uniting the Women’s and Children’s hospitals means more seamless care; more investment to make greater advances in specialist treatment and world-leading neo-natal and fetal work. Importantly, it also gives us a greater voice in shaping the future of family-centred care.
Providing excellent care and facilities is central to all that we do, but there is a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes in research that helps us find cures and better treatments for our women, children and families now and in the future.
At our Women's Hospital, we have world-leading research including around Gynaecology, maternity care, neonatal and fetalmedicine and here we host the National Centre for Miscarriage Research Genetics. Our genomic research focuses on the development of cancer and rare diseases. At our Children's Hospital, we carry out world-leading research and treatment for everyday conditions and for children with rare diseases which affect less than one in 100,000 children.
Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is now looking to appoint a new Board Level Clinical Director of Research and Innovation. This is a senior leadership role responsible for leading, shaping, championing and delivering an ambitious vision for research and innovation, and improvement across Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.
The post-holder will provide strategic leadership to ensure excellence in research, the development of a strong and inclusive research and innovation culture, and the translation of discovery into improved outcomes for women, children and families. A core focus of the role is nurturing and developing future researchers and innovators, strengthening academic and innovation capability across the organisation, and growing the Trust’s national and international research profile.
The successful candidate will be an established researcher or innovator in a relevant field combined with extensive relevant managerial experience. They will be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of innovation and research within a healthcare and commercial healthcare context and the challenges that arise in that context. The will evidence leadership within a complex organisation and stakeholder environment as well as experience of setting and delivering on a clear and visionary strategy.
