Barts Charity is East London’s oldest healthcare charity and has been at the forefront of advancing healthcare for hundreds of years. Together with our partners, we make better healthcare possible, funding brilliant ideas and ground-breaking research to transform lives, research that benefits 2.5 million people across East London. We do this by funding high-quality, innovative projects in patient care, medical research, and NHS workforce wellbeing, initiatives that would not otherwise be funded by the NHS or other grant funders.

We are at a particularly exciting point in our 900-year history. As we reach the final months of our current strategy and prepare to implement our new five-year strategy for 2027–32, we are seeking to appoint a Director of Funding and Impact to help shape our next chapter; translating our ambitions into a new, more focused and pragmatic approach to funding, and ensuring that our resources deliver the greatest possible improvements in health and healthcare.

This is a senior executive position, central to shaping our funding strategy, influencing funding decisions, and ensuring that we understand, demonstrate and maximise the impact of our funding portfolio.

We are looking for an experienced senior leader with a strong track record in developing and delivering funding strategies and complex portfolios within the healthcare, research, charitable or public sector. You will be an accomplished strategic thinker and relationship builder, able to work effectively across organisational boundaries and translate ambitious strategies into practical programmes that deliver results.

You will bring a strong understanding of impact measurement, evaluation and learning in a funding context, alongside experience of using data, digital tools and AI-enabled approaches to strengthen strategy, decision-making and impact. You will also have experience of leading multidisciplinary teams and working with senior stakeholders, boards and committees. Excellent communication skills will be essential, including the ability to present complex issues clearly to diverse audiences.
