The Position


Title: President


Key Areas of Responsibility:


1. The President will provide visionary leadership for the University, in alignment with the mission and Strategic Plan of the University. The President will further advance the University’s academic excellence in research and professional education and develop its international standing. 


2. The President will take the lead and direct the University’s development in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, China and internationally, including supporting the continued development of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan).


3. The President will work collaboratively with the Council, Senate, senior management, staff, students and external stakeholders in advancing the strategic priorities of the University.


4. The President will foster a culture of transparency, accountability, integrity and excellence across the University, and ensure that the University’s operations and decision-making processes are conducted in accordance with established governance, financial and procurement policies and procedures.



The Person


The appointee must have a doctoral degree and a distinguished record of accomplishment in higher education. S/he must have a proven record of leadership as well as significant leadership, academic and administrative experience at a senior executive level in a leading university or comparable institution, with a proven track record of leading complex organisations through growth, transformation and change, together with demonstrated experience in working effectively within established governance frameworks and maintaining constructive relationships with governing bodies, academic leadership and diverse stakeholder groups, and an appreciation of the values and objectives of a public university dedicated to quality teaching and scholarship, and an understanding of Hong Kong’s education scene.


The successful candidate should have personal qualifications and characteristics including the highest degree of personal integrity, professional conduct and accountability, outstanding communication, interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, the ability to build trust, foster collaboration and achieve consensus among diverse stakeholders, a demonstrated commitment to transparency, fairness, inclusiveness and merit-based decision-making, strong strategic judgement and the ability to balance academic aspirations with sound institutional governance, the ability to operate effectively within a complex and evolving international higher education environment, and a high level of energy, resilience and adaptability required to lead a dynamic institution through opportunities and challenges.



Remuneration


The successful candidate will be offered an initial fixed term contract for five years. The remuneration package will be highly competitive and commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the appointee.
