Dedicated to building a more prosperous, thriving and sustainable future for Asia.
Asia is home to some of the world's most vulnerable ecosystems and populations, already facing the harsh realities of climate change – extreme weather and rising seas among them. At the same time, it is also a major contributor to global carbon emissions, accounting for nearly half of the world's total. Despite the grave urgency of combating global climate change, less than 2% of global philanthropic funding is currently directed towards climate mitigation. Moreover, only a fraction of this funding is allocated to initiatives focused on Asia.
Established in Singapore in 2021, Tara Climate Foundation is a philanthropic initiative dedicated to fostering a future where Asia’s unwavering commitment to climate action paves the way for just, thriving and resilient societies. Tara Climate operates in East, Southeast and South Asia, excluding India and China with a team of over 55 experts spread across the region, working to combat climate change. Tara partners with funders to align resources and regrant funds to implementing organisations, and builds networks with experts, purpose-driven organisations and other key stakeholders to promote meaningful debates, knowledge exchange and collaboration. Tara has already provided grants to more than 300 organisations across 13 countries and jurisdictions and is looking to double its funding and grant-making in the next three years for maximum impact in this decisive decade.
At this critical time, Tara Climate is seeking a strategic, high-performing leader to join as its General Counsel, overseeing all legal matters. The General Counsel will help Tara navigate international legal contexts, mitigating risk and ensuring compliance with regulatory and donor requirements across jurisdictions. As General Counsel, you will provide expert legal advice on a wide range of matters; develop systems, processes and policies to enhance the Tara’s decision-making and operational efficiency; and work closely with program, strategic partnership, operations, and leadership team to unlock legally sound pathways to impact.
The ideal candidate will bring expertise in international law and legal affairs with an excellent track record in legal, risk and compliance management, with a minimum of 15 years’ relevant experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in advising senior management of international organisations, particularly related to philanthrophy, grantmaking and regranting activities within an NGO. You will bring outstanding intercultural communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively in a high pressure and fast-paced environment, and a strong commitment to Tara’s values. Experience in grantmaking and in Asia, including an understanding of US law or experience in working with US Counsel, is highly advantageous.
Qualifications: You will hold a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Law/International Law from an accredited institution with active bar membership in either Singapore or equivalent.
If you are excited by the prospect of joining a dynamic and fast-growing international organisation dedicated to accelerating a just clean energy transformation in Asia, then Tara Climate Foundation wants to hear from you.
