About the role
The Director of Technology will provide leadership in setting the IT vision for HKIS and collaborate with the senior leadership team to realize that vision. The Director will oversee both short and long-range planning to support HKIS in creating and maintaining an IT environment that is responsive to the rapidly changing technology landscape and the school’s instructional and operational needs.
The Director of Technology is responsible for leadership across the following key domains:
~ Developing, implementing, operating, monitoring, and evaluating the IT infrastructure to ensure a best-in-class system that supports the School's operations. The infrastructure includes the hardware, software, and data storage systems, e.g., platforms, network equipment, telecommunications, and data security.
~ Working collaboratively with academic and administrative leaders across the School to identify application, content, and computing platforms that support and allow for the seamless flow, processing, and analysis of data; this includes the integration of technology in the ongoing instructional program.
~ Ensuring that systems are integrated to maximize efficiency of both operational (e.g., Finance, Human Resources, Facilities Management) and educational needs (e.g., Student Information System, student learning data, admissions workflow).
The Director of Technology reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is supported by a team of 24 employees including six direct reports: the Data Services Manager, Infrastructure Services Manager, Client Services Manager, Systems Project Manager, Security Engineer, and an IT Office Coordinator.
Selection criteria
HKIS is seeking to identify senior professionals who will bring to the role a balance of technical expertise and leadership skills and experience. Individuals with strong problem-solving skills and change management experience are encouraged to apply, and experience within the K-12 education sector is preferred but not required.
Specific qualifications sought include:
~ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field; advanced degree preferred;
~ 10 or more years in a senior role overseeing ICT systems of a medium to large organization, including responsibility for developing, implementing, securing, and evaluating ICT systems;
~ Experience leading a team of over 15 colleagues with accountability for annual goals and objectives;
~ The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including students, parents, teaching and administrative staff, and the members of the IT team; and
~ Experience with educational technology for faculty and students preferred.
