Building a Global Foundation for Ocean and Marine Impact
Ocean and marine ecosystems are at the heart of our planet’s future, yet they are under unprecedented strain from climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. A new corporate foundation has been created to lead action in this space, with the mission of promoting the protection and regeneration of oceans and marine ecosystems.
Operating as both a grant-maker and overseeing programme development, the Foundation will fund non-profit organisations specialising in oceans and their biodiversity. As the Foundation evolves, it hopes to progressively develop its own portfolio of initiatives, supporting scientific research, working alongside leading experts, institutions, and networks worldwide.
This is a rare opportunity to build something from the ground up. We are seeking a Founding Executive Director to shape the vision, strategy, and global presence of this new Foundation.
The Executive Director will lead the Foundation’s launch and growth, defining its strategic direction and delivering a high-impact portfolio spanning grants, partnerships, and direct initiatives. You will build and inspire a high-performing team and ensure best-in-class governance and transparency, with the aim of building a distinctive identity for the Foundation in the philanthropic landscape.
As the Foundation’s public face, you will engage with international stakeholders, represent the organisation on relevant platforms, and help position the Foundation as a credible, influential voice on ocean and marine issues globally.
The successful candidate will be comfortable operating within the philanthropic landscape while effectively aligning with the priorities, governance, and dynamics of the founding industrial partner. You will work closely with the Founding Industrial Group, partnering across sustainability, communications, corporate affairs, and business functions to ensure strong alignment and reputational coherence, particularly with its sustainability agenda.
We are looking for a strategic leader and builder, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in foundations or philanthropic entities, NGOs or environmental organisations; or in the private sector in the field of sustainability or corporate affairs. You will have a deep interest in ocean and marine-related challenges, and an appreciation of the policy, scientific, and financial dimensions of the sector. You will bring energy, credibility, and the ability to turn ambition into action.
Above all, you are motivated by the chance to create and scale a platform that contributes to the long-term protection of one of the planet’s most vital resources.
