The Role
Reporting to the Executive Vice Chancellor of the Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, the Dean is the chief academic and executive officer of the Peking University School of Transnational Law. The Dean is supported by a team of seven Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, and Directors, as well as an administrative support team.
Person Description
The next Dean of the Peking University School of Transnational Law will be an established legal scholar with an international reputation, eligible for a tenured appointment as a full professor at one of the world's leading research universities. The successful candidate will be someone with outstanding leadership skills who is committed to the development of a young and ambitious School with a unique role in legal education in China. Furthermore, the successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to innovation in legal education, with a history of implementing new educational initiatives or programs that enhance academic excellence.
Key Responsibilities
~ Academic Leadership: Foster a culture of academic excellence, promoting innovative teaching methods and research initiatives that enhance STL's global reputation.
~ Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans to advance the School's mission, ensuring alignment with the university's overall goals.
~ Faculty Development: Recruit, retain, and support a diverse faculty of high caliber, promoting their professional growth and scholarly achievements.
~ Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Encourage collaboration across departments and with international partners to enhance transnational legal studies.
~ Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with government counterparts, industry partners, members of the local, national and international legal community, alumni and other key stakeholders to support the school's mission and objectives.
~ Administrative Oversight: Manage the school's budget, resources, and operations effectively, ensuring efficient use of resources.
Preferred Qualifications
~ A distinguished record of academic achievement and scholarship, particularly in international legal education or research.
~ Proven administrative leadership experience, ideally within a Higher Education institution.
~ Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
~ Extensive network of international contacts in academia and the legal profession.
~ Ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive academic environment.
