We are part of a global movement of people, churches and partner organisations working to end the injustice of poverty.
Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of their dignity and lets other injustices thrive. We seek to eradicate extreme poverty by tackling its root causes. Together with people living in poverty, we work to create lasting change.
Christian Aid is the international development and humanitarian organisation of the British churches. We work with people of all faiths and beliefs because we believe that everyone is equal in the sight of God. For 80 years we have stood in solidarity with our most marginalised global neighbours. Our work in 26 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America is made possible by donations from the British public, and by our institutional funding partners. Supported by 41 sponsoring churches, we are part of a global movement of people and organisations who passionately champion dignity, equality, justice, and love.
We work for equality between women and men, and for citizen voice and agency. We campaign to tackle the climate crisis and support people on the frontline to adapt to its effects. We provide urgent help when disasters strike. We work for a just peace in places of conflict and violence. And we help people living in poverty to secure a decent livelihood so they can live with dignity.
Director of Organisational Effectiveness
This new and pivotal leadership role will ensure that Christian Aid is a high-performing, values-driven, and impact-focused organisation. As Director of Organisational Effectiveness, you will cultivate a positive outward-facing culture that both supports and inspires our staff while ensuring that the organisation works in a highly effective way. You will lead people, strategy, and performance functions and play a central enabling role for our three ‘vertical’ departments of impact, income and public engagement, and finance and governance, ensuring that people, processes, and systems work effectively together to support our mission and global operations.
With a clear focus on our people, you will drive our work on organisational capability, strategic alignment, and build a culture of collaboration and accountability. You will ensure that we are consistently modelling our values of justice, equality, dignity, and love. You will lead strategy development and planning for the organisation, and ensure that Christian Aid has the insight and learning needed to be focused and agile. Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the strategic direction and oversight of the organisation.
Christian Aid wishes to encourage applications from a wide variety of backgrounds. You will bring extensive senior leadership experience in complex, values-driven organisations with a track record of driving the delivery of successful global change initiatives and transformation projects. You will have experience of leading people and culture functions and organisational development while demonstrating a solid understanding of DEI, safeguarding and security across global contexts. Your ability to leverage business intelligence for strategic planning and organisational improvement will be complemented by strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. As an inclusive leader with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, you will inspire others through your integrity and vision. Perhaps most importantly, you must share our values, be able to articulate our mission, and have a mature understanding of, and sympathy for Christian Aid's faith identity.
The deadline for applications is 9am BST Monday 28th July. To apply, please submit a CV and covering letter via the Apply button, detailing how you fulfil the role description and personal specification.
The role will be based in London with flexible working arrangements and an evolving hybrid working pattern with three days a week in the office. The role will entail international travel including to high-risk environments and a willingness to work outside standard work patterns.
The salary is commensurate with the seniority of the appointment.
Perrett Laver will conduct an executive search process in parallel with the public advertisement of the role. Longlisted candidates will be invited to interview with Perrett Laver in mid-August, and the Selection Panel will subsequently meet to decide upon a final shortlist for the post in late-August, following which, formal interviews with Christian Aid will take place in early-September. If you require any reasonable adjustments to assist you in the selection process, please advise us of these so that we can make appropriate arrangements.

We are actively encouraging people from racial and sexual minorities, people with disabilities, returning parents or carers who are re-entering work after a career break, people with caring responsibilities, people from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds, women, and older workers to apply. We are working to increase the diversity across Christian Aid, and we recognise and value the contributions people with these backgrounds make to a high performing organisation.
