The University of Twente aims to contribute to solutions for the major challenges of our time through education, research and innovation. As an entrepreneurial university, we bring together technology, people and society.

In the coming years, UT will focus on four impact domains where it can make a distinctive contribution: Climate, Health, Safety & Security, and Chip Technology. Together with students, staff and partners, UT develops knowledge and innovations that contribute to a sustainable, safe, healthy and prosperous society.

The University of Twente is looking for the Professor of XUV Optics. The XUV Optics group at the University of Twente is internationally recognised for its work on the physical understanding and development of ultra-thin single and multilayer optical systems for X-ray and EUV applications. The group operates in a strong research environment, supported by advanced infrastructure for thin film deposition and state-of-the-art analysis facilities.

The research group of the XUV Chair collaborates extensively with other departments within the faculty and with leading research institutes in the Netherlands, particularly ARCNL, while also playing an active role in the MESA+ Institute. The group is strongly involved in the national education reinforcement initiative for the semiconductor sector, known as Beethoven. In this role, you will build on our existing intensive collaborations with leading industrial partners. You will help strengthen these relationships and develop new opportunities for joint research, valorisation, and impact.

Requirements:

  1. PhD in a relevant discipline, such as applied physics, materials science, chemical engineering, or a closely related field.
  2. A strong international research track record in experimental thin film physics, surface chemistry, EUV/XUV optics, or a closely related field, evidenced by publications in leading international journals.
  3. Experience of leading or managing a research group, including supervision of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.
  4. A strong track record in securing external research funding (NWO, ERC, EU programmes, or industrial contracts).
  5. Experience of collaborating with industry, ideally in a semiconductor, high-tech optics, or advanced materials context.
  6. Demonstrated teaching experience at university level and commitment to high-quality education.
  7. Excellent communication skills in English. Willingness to learn Dutch is an advantage.

What we offer

  1. A full-time tenured professorship (1.0 FTE) at the University of Twente, Faculty of Science and Technology.
  2. A gross monthly salary scale H2, Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities / CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten, based on a full-time appointment of 38 hours per week.
  3. 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end bonus.
  4. Pension accrual through ABP
  5. Leadership of a well-established group with dedicated deposition and analysis infrastructure, access to the world-class MESA+ NanoLab, and a sustained multi-year industrial funding base from ASML, Zeiss, and partners.
  6. A generous relocation package and support for international candidates.
  7. An internationally-oriented, English-speaking working environment on UT's vibrant campus in Enschede.
