We fight global warming with and for the many people.
The IKEA Foundation is an independent philanthropy that fights global warming with and for the many people. Founded by Swedish entrepreneur Ingvar Kamprad, we are proud to share the heritage and values of the business he started – IKEA. Though we operate independently from IKEA, we hold a common vision: to create a better everyday life for the many people.
To pursue this vision, we support partners that are working to bring long-term changes to high-emitting systems with a direct impact on people’s lives: Energy, Land, Food and Forests, and Buildings and Transport. We are committed to reducing and avoiding greenhouse gas emissions through people-centred solutions. This support is made possible by financial resources generated over decades of IKEA business success. To date, we have provided nearly €3 billion in funding to our partners.
Togetherness is our core value and lies at the heart of our work. We recognise that solving the challenges of this century will require unprecedented levels of collaboration. No single organisation or group of people will be able meet them alone.
The IKEA Foundation is seeking an experienced, strategic and purpose-driven Head of Communications to lead and develop its Communications team. This is a hands-on leadership role in a small, high-performing team, requiring someone who can set a clear direction, make sound judgements and ensure the delivery of high-quality communications with focus, pace and consistency.
The Head of Communications will shape and lead the Foundation's communications strategy, defining and stewarding a clear organisational narrative that translates the Foundation's mission, strategy and learning into credible, compelling communications. Reporting to the Chief Learning and Engagement Officer, they will work closely with the CEO and colleagues across Learning and Impact, Programmes, Convening & Engagement, Operations, and People & Culture to align communications with strategic priorities, organisational learning and evidence, while leading campaigns, media relations, reputation management and crisis communications.
The role carries overall responsibility for the quality, consistency and effectiveness of the Foundation's communications. The Head of Communications will provide final editorial oversight across all communications outputs, including website content and design, editorial copy, campaign materials, media messaging and CEO communications. They will bring close attention to detail, while managing appropriate consultation and approval processes to ensure all communications are accurate, timely and aligned with the Foundation's strategy, tone of voice and values.
Alongside leading the team, the Head of Communications will champion continuous improvement, using insight, research and performance data to strengthen communications practice and impact. They will build strong relationships across the organisation, fostering effective ways of working that enable communications to support the Foundation's strategic priorities and amplify its impact.
This senior leadership role requires demonstrable experience in communications, ideally within philanthropy or another mission-driven organisation. The successful candidate will bring expertise in strategic communications planning, narrative development, editorial leadership, campaign strategy and media relations, alongside a proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams. They will be a hands-on, inclusive and people-centred leader who can create focus, improve ways of working and build a collaborative, delivery-oriented team culture, while translating complex organisational priorities into clear, compelling communications for diverse global audiences.
