Since our founding in 1854, University College Dublin has played a pivotal role in the development of Ireland by demonstrating leadership in each of our values: excellence, engagement, creativity, collegiality, integrity and inclusion. We are Ireland’s global university and make a real difference to the world through our outstanding university community, our wide range of disciplines and our open and ambitious attitude.

The School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering has as its mission the delivery of excellent undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes combined with an ambitious research agenda. The School has grown considerably in the last 10 years and now has 40 academic staff, 50 research staff (post-doctoral researchers, research engineers) and 130 PhD students. Six of the academic staff currently hold ERC awards. The School has achieved outstanding success in Advanced Manufacturing over the last 8 years and hosts the Research Ireland funded I-Form National Centre for Advanced Manufacturing Research, which has recently received Phase 2 direct funding of €19 million up to 2029. This Centre has over 70 PhD and post-doctoral researchers, along with over 40 academics from 9 academic institutions from across Ireland.

The School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering at University College Dublin seeks to recruit a permanent Professor/Full Professor of Advanced Manufacturing. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in (but not limited to), the following: metal and/or polymer additive manufacturing, digital manufacturing (Industry 4.0/5.0), physical metallurgy, materials processing and modelling, production engineering, manufacturing subtractive/machining processes, artificial intelligence/machine learning/data science in the manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate should be recognised internationally for their research and teaching profile in Advanced Manufacturing and will be expected to lead the next phase of the development of the Research Ireland (formerly Science Foundation Ireland -SFI) I-Form National Centre for Advanced Manufacturing as its Centre Director. This will involve overseeing a multi-million euro programme of basic and applied research, developing strategic partnerships with Irish industry, as well as international academic and industry collaborations.

The University will be supported in this appointment process by the executive search firm Perrett Laver. For enquiries or a confidential discussion regarding this role, please contact Chris McCann Chris.McCann@PerrettLaver.com.
